How to recommend a record. Anonymous. To someone who owns the copy, or who will.
This is not a message to a friend by name. You leave one sentence on a record you own. Crate finds another listener who has that album, or holds the note until they add it. They never see who you are. Collectors already do this in shops. Here it stays on the record, not in a thread.
Send one
- You need a membership. Free crates cannot recommend.
- Open Tonight. Put a copy on the platter — tap it in Crate, or let Crate pull.
- Tap Recommend this.
- Write why they should put it on. A short sentence. Twelve characters at least, 280 at most. No links, shops, or pitches.
- Send anonymously.
The first recommend each day is free. After that, one note. You may recommend the same album as often as you like. Each send is a new note. A listener only sees that album recommended once every four months, so extra sends find someone else — or wait until someone adds the copy.
Who gets it
Crate picks a random listener who:
- is not you
- owns that album (artist and title — different pressings still match)
- has not been recommended this album in the last four months
- does not already have a recommendation waiting
- has not asked to stop receiving them
You do not pick the person. If nobody like that is on Crate yet, the note is held until someone adds the copy. Then it shows on their Tonight with your sentence. Held notes drop after 90 days.
What they see
On Tonight, a card: Recommended for tonight. Album. Your sentence. No name.
- Yes, spin it — that copy becomes tonight. Liner notes open on us. Their journal records that they received it.
- Not tonight — declined. The card goes away.
- Remove this note — gone for good. It will not come back on refresh.
- Never send me a recommendation — they opt out. Pending cards stop.
If they pull that copy later, the sentence can sit on the jacket as Recommended to you. Remove this note deletes it permanently.
Vouched
Each recommend is one point toward Vouched for that album. Writing the liner notes is three. Highest total holds the name on Tonight and on the sleeve: Vouched · Name. Hover it for their last recommend, or that they wrote the liner notes. A tie keeps the holder. Spins do not count.
Used
Your send becomes Used when the other listener:
- opens the gifted liner notes, or
- logs a spin on that copy
Your journal gets a used row. Theirs gets a received row. Pulse shows Sent and Used, and the last ten notes (waiting, pending, accepted). You can hide a row from that list. The count stays.
Anonymous
The other listener never sees your name, handle, or email when they get a recommend. If you hold Vouched, your name is on Tonight and the sleeve. Hover shows your last sentence for that album. That is a credit on the jacket, not who sent them the note.
