Crate User Guide

How to create and maintain the shelf you actually own.

Streaming crates are playlists. Discogs is a catalog. This crate is the copies in the other room. Search it like you flip. Add, correct, take one off. Membership can take the whole shelf home as a spreadsheet.

The crate grid of album covers with search and Add
Your shelf. Search by artist, album, genre, or year released. Tap a cover for tonight.

Why collectors stay

You can find the 1972 original, not the 2018 reissue, because year here is the year released. You can type Jazz and get the genre, or Queen’s album named Jazz, depending on the chip you pick. The shelf is yours on the account, not stuck in this browser.

Create it

  1. Sign in. The first time, Add stays open until a copy is on the shelf.
  2. Open Crate. Tap Add. Four doors, same shelf.
Add dialog with Search, Type, List, and Discogs doors
Search, Type, List, Discogs. Pick the door that matches how you already keep the collection.

The four doors

  1. Discogs — paste your Discogs username and a personal token (Discogs → Settings → Developers). Vinyl you own comes in. Grades come with the first pull. Copies already on the shelf are skipped. Free accounts stop at 200.
  2. Search — type artist and album. Every word has to sit on the artist or the title, so XTC Skylarking is not Horace Andy.
  3. Type — artist, album, year if you know it. Crate fills cover and genre when it can.
  4. List — spreadsheet: artist, album. Rows land now. Original year, genre, and jackets fill in the background. Keep crate.rocks open until they land. A typo still goes on the shelf.

Keep it honest

  1. Search the grid. Any, Artist, Album, Genre, Year. Year is year released, not year pressed.
  2. Tap a cover to pull it for Tonight.
  3. Correct — tap Correct, then the copy. Fix artist, album, year, genre. If that name is already on the shelf: Add duplicate, or Delete this one.
  4. Remove — tap Remove, then the copy. Nights you already logged stay in the journal.
  5. Export — membership. Downloads the crate as you see it: filter and order included.
  6. Randomize shuffles the whole shelf. A-Z lines it up by artist, skipping a leading “The”.
